CYRIL HEIM, 92, FATHER OF NCHA TRIPLE CROWN CHAMPION JOE HEIM PASSES AWAY

Cyril Heim, father of Triple Crown winner Joe Heim, passed away on Nov. 26. Photo taken in 1962.

Cyril Heim, 92, the father of NCHA Triple Crown Champion, AQHA World Champion, and NRHA World Champion Joe Heim, passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 in Louisville, Ky..  He was an Artillery-Forward Observer with the 45th Division during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts for his service to our country.

The elder Heim shared his passion for horses with his three children in their youth and while all three rode, it was his middle child and youngest son, Joe, who had the most interest and admitted at a young age that he dreamed of becoming a horse trainer.  Joe, of course, diligently pursued his dream and became an icon in the horse industry.

After his father passed away, Joe lamented that he has always been very proud of his parents and extremely grateful for all the sacrifices they made so that he could ride and show horses in his youth which built the foundation for his later success.  Perhaps his biggest fans, he pointed out that his parents’ support and his father’s passion impacted not just his own life and career choice, but numerous others as well.  His father’s legacy will now continue with Joe’s one-of-a-kind apprentice program, the Joe Heim Academy of Professional Western Horsemanship
Cyril Heim was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ethel Doyle Heim, Cyril Heim is survived by daughter, Susan Heim; sons, George Heim (Mary) of Chicago, Ill., and Joe Heim (Holly) of Thackerville, Okla.., three grandchildren, including  Joette Heim Duvall (Cody) of Granada, Colo.,, and four great-grandchildren.
