NRCHA WORLD’S GREATEST HORSEMAN FINALS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, FEB. 18

 

EVENT HELD WITHIN THE NRCHA CELEBRATION OF CHAMPIONS

The finals of the NRCHA World’s Greatest Horseman, featuring 10 finalists, will be held Saturday, Feb. 18. The event includes four disciplines, including Herd Work, Reined Work, Cow Work and Steer Stopping and is held in conjunction the NRCHA Celebration of Champions..

Following the preliminary events, with 36 entries, leading the field of 10 finalists is Jay McLaughlin, riding Blind Sided  (Peptoboonsmal x Lil Miss Shiney Chex, owned by the Aaron Ranch. McLaughlin had a total score of 873.5, tying for second in the Herd Work with Jake Gorrell riding Smooth N Cash (Smooth As A Cat x Dox Gavacash) with a 219. McLaughlin won the Cow Work with a smooth 222.5  and finished second in the Steer work with a 223.5.

Second in the total scoring with an 871.5 was Shane Steffen riding Dueling Chic Olena, (Smart Chic Lena x Dual Lena), owned by Linda McMahon. The pair finished second in the Cow Work, scoring a 221.

Boyd Rice, the winner of the Herd work, scoring  220 on  Royal Smart Fletch (Royal Fletch x Little Smart Ginger) owned by Kit and Charlie Moncrief, tied for third overall with Gorrell, with a total score of  870.5.

Fifth qualifier is Corey Cushing riding OneTimeAtBandCamp (One Time Pepto x Shortys Rooster), owned by Allan M. Kaplan, to an 870.0.

Brad Lund, riding Rubiesscoobiedoobie (Smart Chic Lena x Playin With Rubles), owned by the Rockin’ K Remuda LLC, was sixth with an 868 score, while Chris Dawson and Travelin Jones (Smart Chic Lena x Travelin With Sass), also owned by Dawson, finished seventh, scoring 867.5.

Jake Telford, riding He’s Shinettes CD (CD Lena x She Shinete), owned by Holy Cow Perf Horses LLC, finished eighth with an 865.5

Luke Jones, the winner of the Steer Stopping, with a 225 score, rode Tommy Boon (Thomas E Hughes x Chitas Blue Boon)), owned by Wayne Hanson, to a total of $861.5.

The final qualifier was John Swales riding Heza Diamond Spark (Diamond J Star x Sheza Shinette), owned by the 7P Ranch to an 861.0.

The World’s Greatest Horseman is held within the NRCHA Celebration of Champions, held Feb. 10-18 in the John Justin arena of the Will Rogers complex in Fort Worth, Texas, The NRCHA World Championship Show features the top horses and riders from each of the NRCHA’s eight geographic regions competing for World Championship titles in 14 exciting events.

In the World’s Greatest Horseman, it is all about one horse, one rider and one very impressive title. In one bit, horses compete in four contests: herd work, rein work, steer stopping and cow work. The NRCHA Celebration of Champions also includes the Peptoboonsmal Cow Horse Classic Derby for 4- and 5-year-old cow horses.
